The Obama Agenda

The Obama administration has made a committment to advocate for children. Child advocates are encouraged by the President's plans to provide every child health insurance, expand educational opportunities for low-income children, extend resources for low-income families, support and supplement our struggling foster care system, and protect children from violence and neglect. State Funding for Residential
State rates for residential placements have not increased since 1999-2000. More than 1,000 beds have been closed in the state since the rates have been frozen. Locally, six-high level programs have closed. more...

Kinship Care
Kinship care is a situation in which an adult family member, such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or other relative, provides a home for a child who cannot live with his or her parents. Kinship placements for children in child welfare provide an opportunity to keep families united through a time of crisis.
