San Mateo County and San Francisco County Human Service Agencies have both proposed cuts to Edgewood Kinship. It is essential HSA continue to fully fund Edgewood Kinship so we can continue to provide support for the ongoing and critical needs of kin-caregivers and their children. Take action by alerting your San Mateo County Supervisor about these devastating cuts.

ACTION ALERT: Oppose Governor Brown’s budget cuts to families

The Governor has proposed a massive $1 billion sweep of First 5 California funds and the permanent diversion of half of all future Proposition 10 Civic Engagement Project for Children and Families revenues. First 5 California, funded by Proposition 10, supports children from prenatal to age 5 by creating a comprehensive and integrated system of information and services to promote early childhood development and school readiness.

What does this mean for children and families served by Edgewood?  

  • First 5 California is the sole funding source for Parent University, an Edgewood family resource center for families of children aged 0-5. Located in the Hunters View public housing project, Parent University has the goal of ensuring that every young child is ready to start school when they turn 5. In the Hunters View community, many children do not have access to early childhood education services. 80% of the people living in the housing project subsist on an income below the poverty level. Read more...
