Fire Damages Edgewood Drop-in Center in San Bruno

July 22, 2009

SAN BRUNO, CA — A special thanks to all of you who have donated to help rebuild the Edgewood San Bruno Drop-In Center. On July 22, fire destroyed this center, which gives
at-risk youth, ages 16-25, a home away from home where they can “hang out” and get the support and services they need to thrive as independent adults. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the fire.

Edgewood’s Drop-In Center opened two years ago to serve transitional-aged-youth and young adults, ages 16-25. The Drop-In Center is a safe and supportive environment where young adults can get needed services and develop educational, social, vocational skills, and independent living skills.

The youth in San Mateo Country still need a place to go, so we are now picking them up in San Bruno and driving them to Edgewood's San Mateo County headquarters in San Carlos. Hours are Monday–Friday, 4-7:30 pm, and Saturday, 11:30 am-3:30 pm.

We appreciate your support through donations of money and of items that were lost in the fire. With the help of the Edgewood community, we will rebuild and offer an even better Drop-In Center in San Bruno. These unfortunate incidents fortunately bring out the best in us.
