41st Annual Edgewood Fair Raises $600,000 for Bay Area Children and Families
May 19, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO, May 18, 2007 – San Francisco celebrated the 41st Annual Edgewood Fair, "Rendezvous in Paris," presented by the Edgewood Auxiliary on May 15 and 16 at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio. The festivities began with a Preview Party on May 15 from 6-10pm. While guests previewed and bid on luxury items at the silent auction, they were treated to exclusive wines by J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines and Broadbent Selections, and Parisian style cuisine from Rue Saint Jacques. The Fair was concluded with a live auction sponsored by Deloitte and Touche LLP where guests bid on fantastic items such as a silver Labrador who is 100% pure Labrador AKC registered from Silver Star Kennel in Texas, the premier silver Labrador breeder in North America, which sold for $20,000. Other fantastic items included a Bandon Dune golf trip that sold for $6,500.
Guests returned to the Golden Gate Club from 10am-3pm the following day to shop for fabulous French clothing and accessories from 35 national vendors, with proceeds benefiting the children and families served by Edgewood. Following the shopping extravaganza, fairgoers were able to rest and enjoy some more wonderful French cuisine delivered by Dan Ripley Catering. To top off the afternoon, guest speaker Madeline Levine, Ph.D., author of The Price of Privilege, spoke and was available for any questions. The Edgewood Fair is a San Francisco tradition. It began as a modest event hosted by the Edgewood Auxiliary to buy holiday gifts for Edgewood's children. Now a local institution, the Edgewood Fair remains one of the Bay Area's most notable fundraisers of the season, this year generating $600,000, 20% more than last year.
Lisa Solinger chaired the event this year with support from assiatant chairs Lisa Wilcox and Lizzie Schneiberg. The president of the Edgewood Auxiliary is Suzanne Heske.
The Edgewood Auxiliary held its first annual Springtime Garden Fair in 1967, an event that blossomed into the highly anticipated tradition of today. The proceeds from the first Fair went to purchase a bus to transport Edgewood's children around the Bay Area. Today the Fair's proceeds support essential community and residential programs serving more than 5,000 Bay Area children and families. The Edgewood Fair is the Auxiliary's primary fundraising event and has raised roughly $5.5 million to date.
About Edgewood
Edgewood helps children and families take back their future by working with them to overcome severe challenges like abuse, neglect, mental illness and crisis. The oldest children's charity in the western U.S., Edgewood began as a refuge for orphans of the California Gold Rush. Since then, has evolved to meet the community's changing needs. What began as a refuge for Gold Rush orphans more than 150 years ago is now a nationally recognized, multifaceted agency. Edgewood serves more than 5,000 children and families in the San Francisco Bay Area each year through community and residential programs.
