Edgewood is proud to be the beneficiary of the Emerald Across the Bay 12K, named by Runner’s World magazine as 'the Best Bridge Run in America.' From top ranked U.S. distance runners to fitness enthusiasts who have made running part of their lifestyle, participants at every level are attracted to the unique challenge of the Emerald 12K course. The point-to-point course features a two-hundred-and-twenty-foot climb from sea level at Horseshoe Cove in East Fort Baker up to the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, a sharp cloverleaf turn coming off the Bridge, wind and surf spray at Fort Point, the flat straight-aways of Crissy Field and the Marina and a final hill up and over Fort Mason to the finish at Aquatic Park.

Children from Edgewood run a one-mile course of the race. These children, along with staff members from Edgewood, train for this challenge. Part of Edgewood’s year-long recreation program, the race helps the children learn to set and achieve goals, ultimately building self-esteem and healthier lifestyles.
